2015 Annual General Meeting and Parish Reports

ANGLICAN CHURCH OF THE WORD

Annual General Meeting December 20, 2015 and January 24, 2016

The meeting of Dec 20, 2015, was called to order at 10.00 am by Margaret Hesford.

The congregation was advised that the meeting will be held over two Sundays the first one being today, the second in January on the 24th in order to give the Treasurer enough time to complete the financial statements for 2015 for presentation.

Fr. Cass advised that three individuals have accepted nominations to run for the two upcoming vacant vestry seats. They are Nuncia Mauge, Kevin Rahl and Jim Wilson. Voting ballots were distributed to the congregation and after the counting was completed it was announced that the new members were Kevin and Jim. Nuncia will be the alternative should someone be unable to complete their time on the vestry. Carrol Moss-Solomon has also agreed to continue as the Clerk of the Vestry.

The meeting was declared officially adjourned at 10.25 am by Margaret.

 

Continuation of Annual General Meeting January 24, 2016

The meeting was started at 10.33am with a prayer by Fr. Cass.

Fr. Cass called on Michael Broihahn our treasurer to present the Financial Report for 2015. Michael indicated that we have met all of our obligations for the past year thanks to the congregation’s contributions as well as a generous stock gift that had been made to us in December.

Michael presented the full financial report to the congregation.

Margaret then moved a vote of thanks to Michael and the congregation overwhelmingly approved the 2015 Financial Report copies of which form a part of the official minutes, a synopsis of which is below.

Rector's Report

Fr. Cass thanked our missionary John for the work he is doing overseas and prayed for God's protection for him. He reminded us to remain faithful to our Apostolic tradition and beliefs in the face of the secular progressive culture in which we exist. He then went on to thank the Senior and Junior Wardens, Treasurer, Vestry and various committee chairpersons for their leadership. He also spoke about our Outreach Program, Bible Studies and the recently concluded Alpha Program. He stated that during his past eight years as our Rector we have launched 5 callings to ministry: 1 Vocational Deacon (Deacon Flo), 1 Youth Pastor (Pastor Jim Wilson) and 3 Priests (Pastors Jonathan, Daniel and Tim).

He went on to thank the Worship Team, Deacon Flo our Lay Eucharist Ministers, Sunday School Teachers, Altar Guild, Prayer Warriors as well as all those who head up and serve in our various Ministries including our "Silent Ministers".

Fr. Cass then presented gifts to the outgoing Senior and Junior Wardens and thanked them for their service to the church. He closed by expressing his love and pride to be allowed to be our Pastor.

Senior Warden's Report

Carrol spoke about the increase in attendance on Sundays as well as the fact that we have met all of our financial obligation due to the contributions from the congregation and stressed the necessity for them to continue their tithing as we are not a rich church and need their tithing in order to continue. He thanked Michael for his monthly Financial Reports, Ginger for taking pictures for all of the special events held and Melanie for updating the web site, and ended thanking Fr. Cass for having him as the Senior Warden over the past two years.

Junior Warden's Report

John thanked the Vestry for selecting him as the Junior Warden, he also thanked the Wilson family for maintaining the church grounds.. He spoke about his communicating with Faith Christian Church regarding suggestions or complaints and indicated that all problems had been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. He thanked everyone for their hard work and stated that he was blessed to serve on the Vestry and as the Junior Warden.

Worship

Michael indicated that 2015 had been a very good year. He asked for volunteers to sing or play so they would have replacements when members were not present. He also thanked Brent, Margaret and Jeb for playing various musical instruments and vocalists Allison and Kimberlee.

Music and Alpha Report

Brent indicated that the team has grown with the inclusion of Kimberlee and Allison. He indicated that he plays because he loves to see us connect with God through the medium of music. He also spoke about the Alpha Program and stated that the presence of the Holy Spirit was felt during the various sessions and especially on the weekend retreat. He concluded by asking for volunteers for the next Alpha program which will be held after Easter and encourage those who could not participate to consider making a donation to help defray the costs.

Network Executive Committee

Margaret's report covered her work as the recording secretary. It also covered the work of the Mission as it continues to grow and emphasize its original and ongoing premise "We are a mission, nothing more, nothing less" Also covered was information on the upcoming Winter Conference 2016 and after that a meeting of the entire Network, Clergy and Laity on Thursday February 18th at 10.00am at the Covenant church in Winter Springs. All are encourage to attend and meet Archbishop Kolini our founding archbishop.

Intercessory Prayers

Margaret's report covered the Prayer Chain and its work in surrounding the church and its people with prayer. Around twenty faithful people lift up your prayer requests daily and new members are always welcome.

Lay Eucharist Ministers

Carol (B) indicated that in taking the Eucharist to the sick and shut-ins she does the first and third weeks and Sharon does the second and fourth weeks with Deacon Flo doing the fifth week.

Deacon's Report

Deacon Flo in her report indicated that her honor is to serve God in whatever way He wishes. These include serving at the Altar, helping prepare the Altar and Sanctuary for church service, assisting Fr. Cass during the service, visiting and providing communion, being the Chaplain at Cleveland Clinic Hospital and working in the Kairos Prison Ministry in Kairos Outside and being the state Secretary for the Kairos State Council.

Audio Visual

Warren's report indicated that everything went well with the AN presentations CD copying and wireless microphone maintenance. He thanked the volunteers who worked in the sound booth and at the Alpha Program events. Fr. Cass also called for volunteers to assist in the running of the audio/ visual equipment on a regular basis.

Youth Ministry

Pastor Jim's report covered a review of the various events that had taken place during 2015 including mission trips by Abagail Hyde to Mexico and Caleb Wilson to Guyana. He indicated that Kevin Rahl and Don Hyde had agreed to teach the youth Sunday school while Mike Broihahn takes a sabbatical. He also outlined the goals for 2016 which include his coaching job at Sheridan Hill teaching baseball, attending a rally in Washington and two upcoming Baptisms. He also thanked the congregation for assisting a family who could not pay their rent.

Sunday School

Jenny spoke about how her need for space had been met, the effect that Sunday School is having on the girls to be Baptized and on their family as well. She thanked Barbara and Nuncia for their assistance. She indicated that the One Room Sunday School Curriculum was still being used and that she would be trying to teach the youth a Hip Hop dance this year. She concluded by thanking Paula Wilson for filling in for her.

Altar Guild

Carol's report covered the function of the Altar Guild and detailed the various individuals who assist. It also covered the Altar Flower Ministry and those who provide flowers for the Altar. Also covered was the Hospitality Ministry and it listed the various events that had been held during the past year concluding with the Christmas Party on December 12th. 2015

Coffee/Fellowship Hour

In her report Debbie outlined the work of the various members and the dates that that the various teams provided the food items. She covered the various items that are purchased by the team leader and how blessed we are in the commitment of each person. Her hope for 2016 is that the coffee hour ministry will continue to bring our church family together.

Food Pantry

This ministry is run by Debbie and Sharon and they thanked the congregation for the food provided which has been of great help to the food pantry in stocking their shelves.

Counters’ Ministry

Sharon's report covered the work of the members and she said our church has been blessed with a wonderfully dedicated group of counters. Her report listed the names of the various teams of two and the Sunday's on which they count. She also thanked Karl and Shirley Daly for their help. They had to resign due to Karl's health issues. Fr. Cass also commented on the work of the counters and the very organized system that was in place and indicated that there are many churches who lacked the organization and accounting system required to account for the funs that they receive.

Bible Study

Fr. Cass reminded everyone that Bible study for the men was held each Tuesday at the Church and for the Women at the Rectory. He also reminded us that a Church Library was available to us and that it was located behind the temporary partition and invited the members to use it.

Announcements

Fr. Cass then announced that the next Senior Warden will be Brent Swanson who was congratulated on his assuming this position.

On a motion moved by Carrol (MS) and unanimously approved by the congregation the Annual General Meeting was declared closed at 11.47 am.
